Google Business Profile checklist

Set up your profile properly, fill in every section that matters, then keep it active so nearby customers choose you. Thirty-seven steps, in order.

This checklist is for any UK business that serves customers in person, at your premises or at theirs. It works for a brand new profile and for one you have had for years but never quite finished.

Work through setup first, then the profile details, then the habits that keep it active. Your ticks save in this browser, so you can come back each month and run through the last section again.

Tips.

What makes the difference when you put it to work.

  • Set a monthly reminder. A short session each month to check edits, add photos, post an update and reply to reviews keeps most profiles in good shape.
  • Mirror your profile on your website. Use the same name, address, phone number, hours and service names in both places so customers and Google see one consistent picture.
  • Ask for reviews while the experience is fresh. The best moment is just after a job is finished or an order arrives, with the link ready to tap.
  • Take photos as you work. Snap finished jobs, new stock and your team on a normal day, then upload the best few each month.
  • If you would rather hand it over, Infinity manages Google Business Profiles for a fixed monthly fee, from photos and posts to review replies.

Questions, answered.

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Creating, verifying and managing a Google Business Profile is free. Be wary of calls or emails claiming you must pay Google to verify your business or keep your listing live.

How long does Google Business Profile verification take?

It depends on the method Google offers you and whether it needs to review your evidence. Some profiles verify quickly, while video reviews can take several working days. Make sure your video clearly shows your location, your signage or branded equipment and that you manage the business.

Can I have a Google Business Profile without a shop?

Yes. Service-area businesses can verify a profile, hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. You still need a real address for verification, and PO boxes and unstaffed virtual offices are not allowed.

Why has my Google Business Profile been suspended?

Common causes include keywords added to the business name, an address that does not meet Google's guidelines and details that do not match the business in the real world. Fix the problem first, then appeal through Google's reinstatement process with clear evidence that your business is real.

How often should I post on Google Business Profile?

There is no official rule. As a rule of thumb, a fresh post every week or two keeps the profile looking active. Fewer useful posts are better than frequent filler, and seasonal offers, events and recent work all make good subjects.
